Huron Academy believes that the development of a child’s character is crucial in the educational setting. We have incorporated character education into our school setting for several years and are led by the Smart Character Choices program. The focus in this area is teaching classroom and school-wide procedures and routines, proper social skills, manners, and character traits.The Academy focuses on several character traits throughout the school year including; Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, and Justice/Fairness. Students attend character assemblies, receive in class presentations, and receive character education incorporated into their academic curriculum.

Board Secretary
Term: 8/25/10 – Present

Mrs. Colombo currently serves as Secretary of the Board and has served on the Board since March, 2000. She utilizes her past experience as an office manger in her role as Board Secretary.  Mrs. Colombo is currently self-employed as a Bookkeeper. She has an Associate Degree in General Studies and received her certification as an Administrative Assistant Professional in November 2014. Mrs. Colombo is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, past president of the Macomb County Mothers of Multiples, and active in her neighborhood community as the Treasurer for her local Homeowner’s Association.

Mrs. Dickey is one of our two parent Board members with two current students attending Huron Academy.  She was a System Engineer at E.D.S. in Warren MI and is currently a Homemaker who holds a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Western Michigan University and a M.A. in Computer Science from Oakland University.  Mrs. Dickey has served as Secretary, Treasurer and President of the Huron Academy Parent Teacher Club and continues as a regular volunteer for many PTC functions.

Dr. Duchene is a practicing Chiropractor in Clinton Township Michigan.  He received his doctorate from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport Iowa after attending Macomb Community College and High School in Roseville.  Mr. Duchene is a member of the Michigan Association of Chiropractors, the Michigan Chiropractic Society, the Michigan Business, and Professionals Association and volunteers as a mentor/judge for the Junior Optimist Club.  Mr. Duchene is a father to 2 children, a son and a daughter who are now adults pursuing careers and studying at the University level.

Ferris State University Field 

Art grew up in Shelby, Michigan. He attended Western Michigan University where he received his BS, MA, and Ed. Specialist degrees. His educational career includes teaching in the Three Rivers and Port Huron Public Schools. Art served in several administrative roles for many years in the Grant Public Schools as Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, and Principal of the high school. He has been a member of the Ferris Charter Schools Office Field Representative team since 1997.

Mr. Twal is one of our two parent Board members with three current students attending Huron Academy.  He is currently employed as a MRI technologist at a local Hospital and has held many positions in the medical field including X-ray technologist, sports medicine technologist and CT technologist.  Mr. Twal has a degree in Pre-Pharmacy from Wayne State University and is active in many service organizations including the American Heart Association, the American Society of Radiological Technologists and the Kappa PSI Pharmaceutical Fraternity.
