Ms. Genova

French Teacher

I am pleased to have my name, Grace Genova, added to the list of staff members at Huron Academy, a group of dedicated and caring professionals.

My education includes, degrees from Wayne State University (BA and MS), the University of Minnesota (BS), as well as postgraduate credits and certificates of completion for workshops on multiple intelligences; cooperative learning; and reading, writing, and literacy.

My teaching career began in Minnesota where I taught advanced English classes and directed the school play. After returning home to Michigan, I began teaching for Fraser Public Schools where I taught English, French, and humanities. My career in education includes teaching adults as well as middle-school and high-school students. At the Chrysler Institute, once a part of Chrysler’s management training program, I taught composition classes, and at Baker College I taught a variety of classes and supervised student teachers. Professional and social organizations I belong to are the American Association of Teachers of French and the Alliance Francaise de Grosse Pointe.

My philosophy of teaching was influenced by William Glasser who wrote “when you study great teachers…you will learn much more from their caring and hard work than from their style.” When students feel that teachers support them and care about them, they are more likely to take risks and to participate in the learning process. Although I strive to use a variety of teaching strategies in the classroom, it is the relationships I build with students and the concern I express for them that will motivate them to try their best, to persevere, and to participate without the fear of criticism or embarrassment. Carl W. Buechner observed the following about students and their teachers: “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” I hope that when students leave my classroom they will leave feeling good about themselves and about their experience with me.

Parents and teachers working together create the best learning environment for students. I welcome your communication and will do my best to help your child succeed and to experience the joy of learning.
