We’re Lovin’ It

Who is ready to give it their all???

Who is ready to rock the spring assessments???

Who is ready to win some prizes???

Beginning April 8th students will have the opportunity  to earn effort tickets that can be used to win some amazing prizes.  Each time a staff member sees a student putting forth their best effort during testing or test prep, they will earn a ticket.  Students can place their tickets in the happy meal boxes of their choice to win gift cards, lunches with the teacher, a day off classes, and much, much more!

We look forward to celebrating our students who will be lovin’ the spring assessments!

NWEA MAP Test

Dear Parents:

During the weeks of April 8th– May 31st, the spring testing window will be open and your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®). We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth in the areas of Math and Reading. Your child will take the tests on a computer.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude
toward testing. And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth.

Please speak to your child about the test experience. It is important that children approach the test with seriousness and confidence. We count on your support in the following ways:

  • Please help alleviate any anxieties your child may have about the testing and encourage
them to take the test seriously and to put in their best effort.
  • Please ensure that your child eats a wholesome, nutritious breakfast each day. Breakfast is provided in Before-Care.
  • Please ensure that your child is well rested and ready to do his/her best work.

Each school year, students in grades K-8 take the tests in the fall, winter, and spring. Following the spring testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth. We are truly excited to begin a new era that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. Partnering to help all kids learn, parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.

M-STEP

Dear Families:

Your child will be taking the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) this spring. This online assessment provides student measurement to be based the learning for the current school year. We updated our technology last school year in preparation for the increased demand on the infrastructure to support the test, but we still only have availability for two classrooms at a time to have online access. Because the test is online, keyboarding skills and formatting will be essential; as M-STEP will feature fewer multiple choices questions and require more in-depth answers.

Testing will begin the week of April 8th and continue through the end of May. No grade level will be testing more than three weeks, but there are some overlaps and the scheduling will be very tight. We have worked tirelessly to produce a schedule that will not only follow the MDE guidelines, but will also limit the fatigue on our students. When you consider that MAP / MPG testing needs to be scheduled in the same time frame, this has been no easy task.

Having you as our partner in preparing your child for this assessment opportunity is vital to student success. Please speak to your child about the test experience. It is important that children approach the test with seriousness and confidence. We count on your support in the following ways:

  • Please help alleviate any anxieties your child may have about the testing and encourage them to take the test seriously and to put in their best effort.
  • Please ensure that your child eats a wholesome, nutritious breakfast each day.
  • Please ensure that your child is well rested and ready to do his/her best work.

The MDE has created an M-Step preview that is now available for student review. The preview is intended to provide students and teachers with a brief look at the technology-enhanced item types they are likely to see for English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. The Spring 2019 Preview is just that, a preview of the item types and system tools. It does not represent all standards for ELA and mathematics, or all grade levels. Please note that the preview includes all grades 3-8 into a single assessment preview so some of the questions may be challenging for your child. Still there are many questions aligned for grades 3 – 8 for your child to familiarize themselves with. The M-Step Spring 2019 Preview must be used in Google Chrome.

Follow the following instruction to access the M-Step preview:

We look forward to providing your child with a wonderful testing experience. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 586.690.8180.
