 Enrollment 

Huron Academy is a PreK-8 public charter school in Sterling Heights, MI, serving more than 500 students. We practice high expectations by delivering a rigorous curriculum that is traditional in nature. Huron Academy strongly believes in the whole child and has a strong character education component along with a focus on individual student needs.

Students at Huron Academy get close personal attention from teachers and support staff through numerous programs. We also have an active parent organization that supports school improvement initiatives.

Enrollment Requirements

Parents/guardians must provide copies of the following for enrollment consideration:

  • Completed Enrollment Application Form
  • Proof of Address – Students enrolling, must provide address verification by presenting TWO original documents to complete the enrollment process (a driver license and a bill or document with parent’s current address listed)
  • Completed Release of Records form
  • Completed Record of Behavior Intervention
  • Child’s Birth Certificate
  • Current Health Appraisal form with immunization record (or waiver)

Final enrollment at Huron Academy is contingent upon receipt and confirmation of the accuracy of the information submitted. A student’s enrollment cannot be confirmed until all records have been received and reviewed.

Any student who has been suspended or expelled by another public school may be denied admission. Administration will facilitate a thorough review of the circumstances resulting in the suspension and/or expulsion and make a decision based on the discoveries.

Open Enrollment and Lottery

Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment for the upcoming school year begins in February. If more applications are received than there are seats available, a random selection lottery will take place to determine which applicants are offered an available seat and determine the order of the waiting list. If fewer applications have been received than there are seats available, all students will be accepted.

Lottery

Lottery is a random selection process to fill available seats for all grade levels. A lottery is only held if the number of applications received during Open Enrollment is greater than the number of seats available in any grade level. Lotteries take place in March. Lottery information will be posted to the school calendar.

FAQ

Public school academies are independently operated public schools. There is no tuition charge to parents because funding comes from state and federal tax dollars. In addition to adhering to all of the same federal and state rules and regulations, and meeting the same academic requirements as traditional public schools, public school academies have additional accountabilities. They are overseen by their PSA authorizer or sponsor as well as their school board and are also held accountable by their parents. In addition, public school academies must be non-sectarian and adhere to all state and federal educational, health and safety regulations.

Huron Academy does not charge tuition. Huron Academy is a free, state-funded public school open to all students who reside in Michigan.

As a public school, we invite applications from all children who reside in the state of Michigan.

We want every child to have an equal opportunity to attend Huron Academy. All applications received during Open Enrollment will be given equal consideration after the closing date through a lottery.

You can also apply after the Open Enrollment period. However, your application will be processed in the order in which it was received, after all previous applications that have been submitted.

Applications are valid for one school year only. If your child is on the waiting list, we will notify you of the Open Enrollment period for the next school year, so you can reapply in time to be part of the lottery.
