Mrs. Barney
Fourth Grade Teacher
Hello! My name is Deanna Barney. I first joined Huron Academy in 2022 as a fifth-grade teacher, and I am excited to return to the Huron community as a fourth-grade teacher.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University, with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Language Arts. I began my teaching career in 2013 and have taught students in grades 2–5 across traditional, virtual, and blended learning environments.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my dog, Gus. I also love reading, cooking, decorating, shopping, and staying active through yoga, Pilates, and paddleboarding.
I believe students learn best when they feel safe, valued, supported, and appropriately challenged. My goal is to create a positive classroom community where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking academic risks, developing independence, and recognizing their own potential. I enjoy designing engaging learning experiences, supporting students with a range of needs, and helping each child build confidence and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.
Strong relationships and open communication with families are also very important to me. I believe students are most successful when their families and teachers work together, and I welcome questions, concerns, and opportunities to collaborate throughout the year.
Please feel free to contact me by email at barneyd@huronacademy.org or by phone at (586) 690-8180.
