What is the National Junior Honor Society?

The National Junior Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

The Huron Academy Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is an organization that promotes appropriate recognition for its students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, service, and citizenship.

Who is eligible to join NJHS?

Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 are eligible for membership. For the scholarship criterion, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in their core classes (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language). Students must also maintain a grade of A or B in enhancement classes for the school year in which they are selected for membership. Each spring, those students who meet this criterion are invited to complete a Candidate Information Form that provides the Faculty Council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service. An invitation to complete a Candidate Information Form is not a guarantee of induction into the National Junior Honor Society.

Why have the National Junior Honor Society at Huron Academy?

The National Junior Honor Society will benefit the individual student, our school, and the community in many ways. Members of the National Junior Honor Society will have a chance to develop leadership skills and will learn to maintain a strong work ethic. NJHS members will be instrumental in planning and implementing events and fundraisers at Huron Academy that will benefit the entire student body. They will also have opportunities to work in the community through service projects.
