Volume 4, Issue 3
Dear Huron Academy Families,
It is the season of giving thanks, and we have a great deal to be thankful for at Huron Academy. From the massive amounts of support received from our families during the move to a successful Halloween with Trunk or Treat to our test scores showing great improvement over the last year, there’s no shortage of gratitude in our hallways!
One thing I’m always thankful for is any opportunity to connect with our families, and we have one such opportunity this coming week – Parent-Teacher Conferences! Attending this conference is a great way to ensure that the routines established by your family at the start of the year are working for your student. If things aren’t working, then you’re already with the teacher – the perfect person to help come up with a gameplan and strategies to set up your student for academic success! While checking grades on PowerSchool or emailing staff will help with getting an overview of what is happening with your child, these conversations hold more depth and nuance so that you may get the full story of their academic standing. Sign-ups have been sent by teachers, so schedule your appointment soon – don’t miss out!
Besides the conferences, November is a very busy month for staff and students. Despite the Thanksgiving break, it is a month filled with new units/lessons for the students. While Quarter 1 is a lot of review and introductions to new topics, Quarter 2 is in many ways the big deep dive into the standards for the school year – so having a good conference and staying on top of their schoolwork in Q2 is the best way to ensure success by the end of the school year.
So in short, my advice is the same as always – get involved as much as you can, do not get complacent with the monitoring of your student’s progress, and reward the good work/behavior so you get more of the same moving forward!
Sincerely,
Joshua Sobczak,
Superintendent

- Be sure to sign up for School Messenger notifications if you haven’t already done so, as well as follow us on social media – this is a great way to stay in the loop with all things Huron Academy!
- Our next PTC meeting is going to be on November 11th. This is a great way to get involved with the school and network with other parents!
- Please follow staff members’ guidance in the parking lot to ensure a smooth flow of traffic – and please remember, no left turns! I know the timeliness of drop-off has been a concern for many families. We are monitoring everything closely, and one big takeaway I’ll share after many conversations with staff and family – you should be in line by 7:50 at the LATEST if you don’t want your child marked tardy.
- With cold weather approaching, make sure you are packing the extra hats, gloves, boots, and warm items for kids at recess. Also – write their names on the items in case they are misplaced!
