Volume 4, Issue 6

Dear Huron Academy Families,

I hope you are all staying safe and warm during these cold days!

While the temperatures are cool, things are certainly heating up at the school. From winter testing kick-off and 5th grade’s reading competition to exciting STEM activities, the Kids Heart Challenge, and a trip to the DNR Nature Center, we have been busy keeping students educated and engaged.

The third marking period began last week, and this is a great time to get into new routines that will foster a strong second half of the school year. From allotted study time after school to earlier bed times (and some technology-free windows), there are plenty of small steps to take that will make a big difference. We have conferences in a month, but you can always check progress in PowerSchool and/or reach out to staff with questions/concerns at any time.

While students are always our primary focus at Huron Academy, our families are still at the heart of our school, and we know the families are talking about our drop-off and pick-up logistics. Our team has heard many of the concerns about the parking lot logistics, and we are continuing to work towards solutions to make each day better than the one before. Most recently, a survey opens in a new window was sent home about potential bussing to help alleviate traffic congestion – please fill this out! Whether you’re interested in bussing or not, there are spots to provide further feedback; the results of this survey will be brought to the next meeting I have with the county about this issue. Please know that this has been a primary focus for the administration team since early 2024, and we want things to go smoothly as much as you!

The good news is that while things aren’t moving as fast as we’d like, they are still moving in the right direction. We’re projected to have the back lot paved in a few months, along with the re-installation of the playground (along with new equipment); additionally, we are planning another field trip for the summer that we hope to have our families join us on. We’re meeting with folks to expand our sports and robotics programs, exploring new enhancement classes, and engaging in new activities within our four houses. Our PTC group is also working on some fun events for our families and students alike.

In short, I encourage you all to treat these cold days like I do – an opportunity to spend more time with my kids reading and studying for the big tests, more time to plan events and get involved at the school, and more time establishing the new routines to ensure a successful 2026. Like a farmer looking toward harvest, I’m excited to see what our collective efforts will grow into in the coming months, and I hope all of our families share in a bountiful season.

Sincerely,

Joshua Sobczak,
Superintendent
