Volume 4, Issue 8

Dear Huron Academy Families,

I hope everybody had a lovely spring break with their families last week. We are officially in the 4th quarter of the 2025-2026 school year.  These days are not only full of exciting events, field trips, and activities, but also the end-of-year standardized testing cycle, including NWEA, PSAT, and M-STEP testing.

These tests are important because they not only measure your child’s progress, effort, and academic skills over the course of the year, but they provide a comparison between other schools and students on the local, state, and national levels.  While they provide a snapshot of all of the above, it can also give us a lot of details and insight into who they are as a student year round.  This information helps teachers identify areas for support and fosters our schoolwide planning for the following year.

As always, we encourage lots of rest, review, and routine during these days.  Getting consistent sleep with balanced meals (rest), lots of practice with normal schoolwork (review), and following a daily schedule that allows time for work, play, and relaxing (routine) will help to get the best results on not just the tests, but the final report card of the year.

Sometimes it can be hard to focus on academics at the end of the year – as mentioned, lots happening this time of year – but maintaining the focus and effort not only ends the year strong academically, but encourages students to reflect on growth for the year and builds momentum for a strong kickoff to the upcoming school year.

Parents can help with this by encouraging students with all of the above on a regular basis.  They can also help by not picking up prior to dismissal.  This tends to happen towards the end of the year, but this has been happening more often throughout the first three quarters of the year due to families not wanting to wait in line at dismissal.  Generally speaking, this leads to loss of instruction over time, which leads to a decline in grades, which isn’t anything anybody wants for their children.  The success of any student begins and ends with the support they get at home, so let’s see to it that our kids finish the year with focus, confidence, and pride!

In short, things get busy quickly this time of year, so plan ahead and pace yourself accordingly – this is a marathon, not a sprint!

Sincerely,

Joshua Sobczak,
Superintendent
