Volume 4, Issue 2

Dear Huron Academy Families,

After years of planning, and 8 months of intense work, our campuses have finally merged! It has been a labor of love, and while the journey has been long and arduous, our staff and students are all in great spirits about it only a few days in.

There are many questions that have been asked about the new addition, and we are fielding them as quickly as we can. Most of them have been about when they can see the new classrooms, as we didn’t have the time to put together an open-house event prior to the Metro campus joining Utica campus. Teachers are still unpacking boxes, we’re finalizing decorations & internet logistics, and all of those last-minute items are being attended to. That being said, next month’s parent-teacher conferences will be a great opportunity for those curious to see everything, and we are planning on having the next PTC meeting in our new multipurpose room.

Another major concern is that of traffic logistics during drop-off & dismissal. First of all, I think it’s important to remember that when we officially merged on September 29th, it was like the first day of school all over again. As you know, the first week of school is a bit more hectic and busy than normal; so with that in mind, know that as everybody adjust to the new locations, times, and routines, it WILL be decidedly better in a week or so! Second, as previously mentioned, I’m working diligently to get the support of Clinton Township in putting a traffic light up near our exit point – which would ease a lot of the pains being felt currently. Finally, remember to always display patience and kindness with our fellow parents – we’re all in this together! As clubs start and latchkey resumes as normal, the amount of vehicles arriving at the same time will dwindle as well, speeding up the process.

While lots of things are going on logistically, there are also a lot of important things going on academically as well! From finishing Fall NWEA testing (reports will be headed your way shortly) to students making movies to some awesome short story writing, our children are learning a lot, proving that they are growing academically, and having fun while doing it!

Sincerely,

Joshua Sobczak,
Superintendent
