Huron Academy Families,
We are officially at the end of the school year, and what a year it has been! From exciting field trips and fun lessons to awesome assemblies and our house system, it has been a rewarding year for students and staff alike at our school. Next year promises to bring even more engagement to our school community, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for us all.
The big event of next year is the merging of our two campuses, with our Metro campus moving to our Utica campus in order to have all students at one building. While we have been working hard behind the scenes on this for several years, we have experienced several construction delays due to the heavy rain in March.
What does that mean for our families? Unfortunately, it means that PreK-2 will likely start the school year at the Metro Campus. As it stands, we are looking at the building project being completed towards the end of September. As such, we are looking at potentially 4 weeks of students at Metro still, and all students at Utica campus by the first or second week of October.
I understand that may cause a logistical headache for some of you; as a parent with his kids split at both campuses, I completely empathize! That being said, nothing is written in stone yet, and we have crews working overtime to make up for the time lost due to weather delays (it’s also worth noting that our current Utica campus experienced similar delays, and we still were up and running by the first day of school!). I’m remaining cautiously optimistic, and am working hard every day to try to make the deadline happen on time. We are also looking into getting a bus to drive students from the Utica campus to Metro campus in the mornings (and vice versa at dismissal), so if needed, parents can drop-off and pick-up at one campus regardless of building delays. Again, nothing is written in stone, so be on the lookout for updates throughout the summer.
Another big change is uniforms for 3-8 next year. As previously communicated, all students in those grades will be required to wear house polos as part of their uniforms – white/navy are no longer permissible. While many families have been adjusting to this change over the course of this school year, this change does bear repeating. The good news is that not only will online ordering be an option for the 25-26 school year, but we will also be giving all families a $25 voucher per student to go towards the new uniform shirts.
Our team will be working hard all summer on these changes to ensure as smooth of a start to the school year as possible. For our families, we simply hope that you make the most out of the break! Many families have signed up for our Summer Academy program, and others have bought Summer Bridge books. No matter what your summer plans are, try to take advantage of any and all educational opportunities for your kids. Whether it is a museum visit or a trip to the local library, keeping a child’s mind active over the summer is a surefire way to kick-off the next school year on a positive note. I look forward to sharing that kick-off with you all at the end of August at our annual back-to-school event. Until then, I wish you all a relaxing, rewarding, and recharging summer break.
Sincerely,
Joshua Sobczak,
Superintendent
