Volume 4, Issue 7
Dear Huron Academy Families,
Slowly but surely, spring is coming – which means warmer weather, longer days, and lots of fun and exciting events! From our Science Olympiad tournament this past weekend to our MS Band & Choir concert, we’re already rolling out the good times for our students. We are also planning a number of field trips in the coming months for various grades, clubs, and houses; we are going to be needing volunteers for these and some end of year activities as well, and hope to use these opportunities to increase our family visibility in the school, just like we did in the pre-Covid years.
Speaking of families, thank you to all who responded to our various surveys, including the bussing interest survey form. The results of that survey are in, and it has been decided that we will NOT be utilizing those services for this school year. That being said, we are still projected to have the parking lot paved as soon as the freeze laws are lifted and we can finalize permits with the township. Between that, a traffic light, increased afterschool activities, and some new procedures internally, we (the school and Macomb County) are confident that a great deal of these traffic woes will be alleviated prior to the end of the school year. The school staff GREATLY appreciates your patience and understanding during this time of transition and upgrade, but as always, feel free to reach out with any concerns or issues.
Of course, it would be remiss of me to not mention my favorite part of this month – March is Reading Month! This is always a great opportunity to reignite or introduce a passion for literacy. We encourage you to actively read with your kids at home, get more newspapers/magazines, go to the library, and do anything you can to get the kids reading more! Schoolwide, we will be engaging in our usual activities and contests; this year’s theme is based on the video game Mario Kart, and in addition to a number of prizes students can earn for reading, they can also enter a Mario Kart tournament and win more prizes.
I hope March brings lots of joy to your family, and that spring break at the end of the month is a great one. We’ll be returning to even warmer weather, testing season kickoff, and preparing for the final quarter of the year.
Until then, be safe, happy, and healthy.
Sincerely,
Joshua Sobczak,
Superintendent
