A Message from Mr. Sobczak

Huron Academy Families,

Happy New Year! I hope that the holiday break was relaxing and full of family and fun.

The first week back is always a bit crazy for families. Because the first week back is also the last week for Quarter 2 grades, be sure to have your kids rest up, eat a good breakfast and go to bed earlier than on the break! It’s a great way to ensure that the transition back to school is smooth, and also kick off the next marking period on a strong note.

January is all about new beginnings – whether it is academically, behaviorally, socially, or physically, it’s a great time to start fresh and work towards a better tomorrow. I encourage your family to have conversations about how to make 2024 the best year yet, and come up with a plan to achieve your goals!

Speaking of goals, our NWEA Winter testing will begin in a few short weeks. You’ll get a separate email with tips for your family, but the big things to remember are – you guessed it – lots of rest and a good breakfast to kick off the day. These tests are important for our school not only in terms of funding, but also because the data we get from these tests drive our classroom instruction, and help to customize our lessons in a way that best meets the needs of our students.

Finally, there will be no school on January 15th due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. While a day off is always nice, I encourage your family to make the day a meaningful one. I’ve read it on parent surveys, heard it in plenty of conversations, and as a parent of students here myself, I hold the same belief – the diversity of our students and families at our school is one of our biggest strengths. While there’s much room to grow as a nation, seeing our kids play and learn together every day gives me hope that we’re a step closer to the actualization of Dr. King’s dream. Here are some great ways to acknowledge, learn about, and work towards that dream: https://tinyurl.com/yehhh7an

Sincerely,

Joshua Sobczak
